She has a PhD in historical musicology, with a specialization in Women’s Studes, and teaches seminars on the harem, slavery and courtesans. In the fall of 2013, during the first week of my first-year college seminar, “Reading Social Justice: The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards,” the students and I read Rita Dove’s haunting poem Trayvon, Redux. Lisa Nielson, Anisfield-Wolf Fellow in Case Western Reserve University's SAGES program, was profiled in the Plain Dealer's "My Cleveland" column.
